An elderly woman in New York recently put her faith into an ambulance crew that was to provide adequate care when they answered her 911 call for help. The 65-year-old woman has recently been awarded a $1.25 million settlement for medical expenses, pain and suffering after this botched 911 call. A New York Supreme Court jury made this decision following two weeks of a medical malpractice trial.
Apparently, a call was made to 911 in Dec. 2010. The ambulance crew arrived, but it had been alleged that they did not provide proper care. Instead of using a stretcher to transport the 65-year-old woman who was in need of care, the emergency crew left her in the chair that she was sitting in and transported her from the house to the ambulance.
It was also reported that one of the emergency crew members slipped and fell on the ice. This caused him to lose his grip on the chair and the chair fell to the ground. The fall led to injuries in the woman's lower back that ended up requiring surgery.
When a person in New York calls 911, they are in need of someone's help and expect to receive adequate assistance. Unfortunately in this woman's case, the ambulance crew failed to provide sufficient assistance, which resulted in serious injuries to her back that resulted in surgery. Though this type of botched 911 call seems to be rare, medical malpractice situations like this do occur. When an individual has been the victim of someone else's medical negligence, that person might do well to pursue legal options inside and outside of the court in order to recover associated damages.
