Surgical error may have caused 1 woman in New York to go bald

A woman is seeking $15 million in damages in a lawsuit that she has filed in New York against Microdot. She went to Microdot, a local New York hair clinic, in order to receive a hair implant procedure. Unfortunately, due to an alleged surgical error, instead of having beautiful, flowing hair as she expected, she is now permanently bald.

The 56-year-old woman underwent hair implant treatments for two years, beginning in April 2012. She was supposed to end up with hair that she had always dreamed of. Supposedly, they were going to match her natural hair's texture and color, which would allow her to continue her daily hair routines, such as washing, straightening, curling, etc.

The New York Post reports that the lawsuit states that the individual who performed the surgical hair implant procedure did not have a medical license. In fact, the performing surgeon only had a cosmetology license. It was not mentioned whether a medical license is actually required for this type of hair implant procedure. Regardless, the woman ended up needing to shell out thousands of dollars in order to get a permanent artificial wig to cover her baldness.

When a surgical or medical physician or company says that they will provide their patients with a certain service, they are responsible for upholding their end of the bargain. When this is not done, the patient has the right to file a medical malpractice claim, citing the surgical error. This type of lawsuit in New York can potentially hold the company or individual liable for their inadequate care and may award monetary damages to the victim for mental anguish, the cost of past and future medical expenses, general pain and suffering and other related damages.
