Illinois wrongful death claim alleges medical malpractice

Regardless of whether a patient comes into the hospital for treatment of a minor scrape or severe chest pains, New York patients should be diagnosed, treated and cared for properly. After all, health professionals are required to do that. Unfortunately, this does not always happen. This may have been the case in a situation in another state where a physician and the hospital where he practices are both facing a wrongful death lawsuit which claims that they committed medical malpractice.

A father alleges that the doctor and the hospital failed to properly treat his daughter. He says his daughter had sickle cell disease, which she was being treated for. She was also being treated for acute chest syndrome, among other conditions, in July 2012.

Reportedly, the defendants failed to treat his daughter's symptoms sufficiently. He alleges that they provided her with too much medication, particularly narcotics. He also asserts that they failed to ensure she had adequate levels of oxygen, blood and fluids.

This was on July 24. She passed away the next day after suffering a great deal of pain that was essentially unnecessary. The lawsuit cites wrongful death, medical malpractice and loss of companionship.

Whether it's a misdiagnosis, surgical error or prescription error, New York patients who have suffered injuries due to a medical professional failing to provide adequate care may benefit by gaining an understanding of the legal options available to them. In many cases, a medical malpractice claim could an appropriate legal measure to take. With the right advice and guidance, New York medical malpractice victims may be able to achieve financial relief for the monetary damages they have sustained.
