Hospital negligence suit after patient was allegedly dropped

It is a sad but true fact: hospital negligence occurs much more frequently than we would like. This is true here in New York as well as across the rest of the nation. Currently, a woman's son is filing a lawsuit against a hospital in another state where he alleges hospital negligence injured his ailing mother.

Specifically, the man is alleging that his mother was dropped during surgery. This reportedly occurred during a surgery in Sept. 2010. She was unconscious when the hospital staff moved her from the surgical operating table. This is when the staff supposedly dropped her.

Afterward, due to the alleged incident, the woman suffered serious injuries to her hands, shoulders and back. Neither the mother nor the son was informed of the unfortunate incident that took place behind closed doors. In fact, the incident was not revealed for several days following the surgery until the staff was questioned about the woman's open sores that had developed on her back. She underwent treatment for her injuries, but she eventually passed away.

All medical staff in New York are expected to provide safe and reasonable care to their patients. They are further required to report any incidents that occur during a surgery or while under their care. When medical professionals fail to exercise due care, their patients may suffer. When hospital negligence occurs, it is important that victims or the families of victims consider seeking legal recourse to hold the responsible parties liable for their alleged negligence. A successful claim may keep them from performing the same negligent actions in the future while providing the victim or the victim's family with financial relief.
