Girl declared brain dead after tonsil removal

For many young people, having tonsils removed has become a routine surgery that most children come to expect they will have done. Although some doctors might caution on the use of surgery to solve problems related to illness, these surgeries can be risky, no matter how routine they might seem.

In another state, a girl recently went in for her tonsil removal surgery, but things didn't go as planned. According to a report, the girl started bleeding out of her nose and mouth after the surgery and went into cardia arrest. She is now considered brain-dead, and the girls parents refused to take her off of life support.

Routine surgeries can sometimes result in significant complications. Although the hospital in this case said they are still looking into why the girl suffered such complications, this does little for a family that has been told their daughter will not recover.

Although compensation can't undo a surgical error, families in Syracuse might be wise to speak with an attorney about their rights. Sometimes after a medical malpractice issues a family might still be sent a large bill for their medical expenses.

When a doctor makes a mistake, a family shouldn't be forced to pay for extra hospital days or other procedures that might be performed to fix the error. An attorney can help a family understand their options following a medical error. This stressful time shouldn't result in increased expenses for a family that is already trying to handle the loss of a loved one.
