Robots and surgery don't mix: da Vinci robots may harm patients

Many patients undergo surgical operations every day in New York hospitals. Surgery can be very risky for patients, especially depending on the specific procedure and overall health of the patient. Surgical improvements continue to be made, including the use of robotic surgical devices.

More hospitals are using da Vinci robots to perform surgical procedures, saying it is safer and less invasive than having an actual surgeon perform the operation. The increase in hospitals using da Vinci robots for surgery has led to serious risks for surgical patients.

Many patients have suffered injuries or complications after having a robotic surgery. The common types of complications and injuries patients have suffered after surgery include burns, tears, infection, internal bleeding and even death. Many patients have also been required to undergo an additional surgical procedure to prevent future problems.

What makes da Vinci robots so dangerous? Many injuries and complications have been caused by design defects on the surgical systems as well as surgeons not be properly trained and educated on how to use these devices to perform procedures.

Robotic surgery errors can result in very serious complications for patients. Hospitals using these surgical devices are supposed to know how to safely use them. Hospitals should also be informing patients about the risks associated with these procedures so patients are fully aware of the risks they face.

Patients who have suffered an injury or complication after having a robotic surgical procedure should know that the hospital can be held responsible for their negligence or unsafe actions. Patients can pursue a medical malpractice lawsuit against those responsible. Patients and their families can visit our robotic surgery errors page to learn more about the dangers of these devices and what legal action can be taken.
