Doctor errors could lead New York residents to file claims

In some cases, New York residents may be able to pinpoint what is causing them pain and be able to take care of the issue themselves. However, in many cases, individuals may not know what is causing them pain or other symptoms of a possible illness. As a result, they often turn to doctors in order to receive a diagnosis. Unfortunately, if there are doctor errors or negligence, a person could potentially not receive the correct treatment for their illness and may wish to file a claim.

A woman in another state recently won her medical malpractice case. The situation began when the woman went to the doctor due to abdominal pain. The woman then had two surgeries, but even after those were performed, she still suffered from pain. It was reported that her symptoms had indicated that she had a perforated bowel, but the doctor did not order the test for such a diagnosis until the woman was already severely ill.

The prolonged diagnosis led to the woman suffering additional health problems, including respiratory issues. Tests revealed that her lung capacity has been reduced by 20 percent, and she now needs the assistance of a walker to move around. Due to the jury appointed to her case ruling that the doctor was negligent, she and her husband were awarded $1.2 million.

If the woman's diagnosis had been determined in a more timely manner, she may have been able to avoid the additional health ailments that have resulted. Doctor errors and medical negligence are very serious, and a New York resident who was negatively affect by such actions may have cause to seek legal action. A person's health is very important in their ability to live their life, and if a medical mistake reduced that ability, filing a medical malpractice claim could potentially be right for the situation.
